Dead Wings

Led the design and content creation of the first newsletter of Dead Wings, a music publication zine based in the city of Los Angeles. The concept for this edition was to channel the raw energy and rebellious spirit of classic punk rock zines, infusing it with a distinct do-it-yourself (DIY) ethos.

Design Approach:

  • To achieve the desired DIY punk aesthetic, I employed a mix of bold and/or hand-written typography, gritty textures, and hand-drawn illustrations reminiscent of the punk scene's DIY ethos. Utilizing an energetic palette with pops of vibrant colors, I aimed to capture the raw authenticity associated with underground punk zines while ensuring readability and visual appeal.

Content Creation:

  • In addition to the visual design, I curated and crafted the newsletter's content to reflect the eclectic and diverse music scene of Los Angeles. From visual elements including hand-written typography, music festival spotlights, and thought-provoking editorial pieces, each section was executed to engage and resonate with the diversity of Dead Wings' audience.
